BAHAWALPUR, May 26: A pandemonium broke out in the press conference of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf when some journalists asked about the PTI office bearers here on Saturday.
The press conference was convened by Malik Aamir who, being an old party activist, had been claiming himself as its district president. Journalists were invited to attend the press conference on the occasion of joining of the PTI by a notedeye specialist, Dr Manzoor Malik.
When some journalists asked about the PTI office-bearers, Malik Aamir introduced himself as the district president. At this, his rival and new entrant Farzand Ali Goheer, an aspirant for a PTI ticket for the provincial assembly seat from Hasilpur, belied Aamir’s claim.
Goheer told journalists that presently there was no office-bearer and instead the high command had set up a steering committee in the district.
The chaos descended on the press conference when Goheer, to prove his claim, distributed photo copies of a notification regarding the steering committee.
Supporters of Aamir and Goheer traded harsh words, abusive language and threats and also tried to indulge in a scuffle which was timely prevented by some saner elements of the party. Both sides were cooled down and the situation was brought under control.
Differences among PTI’s new and old activists exist in Bahawalpur, but the party leadership has not made any effort to resolve them. It is worth-mentioning that none of the political heavyweight has so far announced his decision to join the PTIhere.
