UNITED NATIONS, May 26: Iran lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council on Friday, accusing Israel of making remarks that contradict international law, according to a press statement issued by the Iranian Mission here said.
In a letter delivered to the UN Security Council, Iran’s UN envoy Mohammad Khazaee said comments made by Defence Minister Ehud Barak on a potential attack against Iran’s nuclear sites “are a violation of the basic principles of the UN Charter, international rules and a move against the global endeavours to foster regional and international peace and security”, according to the statement.
Khazaee added in the letter that Barak’s “baseless” remarks about Iran’s pursuing of nuclear weapons were made by an official of a regime which threatens international and regional peace with its nuclear arsenal.
The letter was also sent to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon.
