THIS refers to Rafia Zakaria’s factual and excellent write-up, ‘Doctors in danger’ (May 23). The Pakistan Medical Association fully agrees that “an assault on doctors is an assault on those who care about life.”

We would further add that some people have become so dehumanised that killing of care-givers has become a very common occurrence across the country.

Kidnapping for ransom, extortion and blackmailing seem to be a thing of the past. The current trend, unfortunate as it is, involves nothing else but killing.

Hundreds of highly-qualified doctors have left the country and have been welcomed in the West, the Middle East, the Far East and other regions. Many more will leave at the first available opportunity out of fear for life. Who will put a healing hand to our patients? Who will treat their ailments? As a nation, we should sort out the menace.
