KARACHI, May 25: Sheraz Bhatti captured five wickets for 16 runs including a hat-trick as Rawalpindi Kings beat Asifabad Sports by 14 runs to record their first win in the Pakistan Champions Cricket League at TMC Ground here on Friday.
In a low-scoring match, left-arm spinner Sheraz dismissed Asifabad Sports for 80 in the 20th over after they were set a modest victory target of 95 to win.
Earlier on Thursday night at RLCA Ground Korangi, Rawalpindi Kings’ Adnan Ghani achieved the first hat-trick in the history of the event.
However, despite Adnan’s effort Rawalpindi Kings suffered a 51-run defeat at the hands of Phoneix CC of UAE as winners secured the berth in the knock-out rounds with their third win.
Vital-V CC and Al-Noor Gymkhana have already secured berths in the last 16 rounds after winning three matches in a row.
Marker CC Quetta pulled off a shocker when they registered a nail-biting one-wicket victory over favourites Afghanistan Youth at RLCA Ground Gulberg on Friday morning.
Afghansitan Youth batted first and Gulbadeen Naib smashed a 43-ball 63 with five sixes and three boundaries while Asghar Jannat made 29 in 24 balls with three fours and a six to take the total to 157-7 in 20 overs. Naimat Ali claimed three wickets for 31 runs.
Marker Club Quetta in reply reached the target on the penultimate ball. Man of the Match Bismillah Khan emerged as the hero of the day as his fighting unbeaten 67 off 53 balls with seven fours guided his club to victory with one ball to spare. Ata-ur-Reham also made a valuable 35.
At RLCA Ground UP, leg-spinner Shahzaib Khan produced amazing figures of five wickets for nine runs as Malir Gymkhana beat Asifabad Sports by two wickets.
