LAHORE, May 20: The Punjab government has prepared a citizen feedback pilot project to provide relief to the common man.

In the first phase the project will be implemented in health, police, revenue and the Lahore Development Authority.

Presiding over a meeting here on Sunday, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the project would help improve the performance of the departments and mitigate public complaints.

He said the project had been prepared for achieving the target of good governance. It would restore confidence of the common man in the government institutions, with a belief that civil servants were answerable to them.

He said ‘petty corruption’ in low-cadre staff would be eliminated and the provincial government would also benefit from it.

The chief minister said the government would take help from this project in the hiring of 23,000 science teachers and action against the land mafia. He said the project would also help in assessing the performance of 36 model police stations.

Mr Sharif said the citizen feedback model was an essential part of the government efforts towards better service delivery.

Punjab Information Technology Board chairman Dr Umar Saif briefed the meeting on the technical aspects of the project.

At another meeting to review the progress on the project of metro bus service, the chief minister said the provincial government was introducing a new transport culture that would not only provide alternative to the uncomfortable and old travelling means but also help commuters reach their destination in time.

He said development work on the first phase of 32-kilometre long project from Gajumata to Shahdara was being carried out expeditiously.

Terming the metro bus service project a great cultural change in public transport system in Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif directed that the provision of facility of escalators for the disabled passengers should also be considered. He said that the air-conditioned bus service in hot weather of Punjab was not less than a blessing for citizens. He said that the uncomfortable traveling means like motorcycle and old buses were against the human dignity. Therefore, comfortable and rapid public transport of international standard was being introduced for commuters, he added.
