Tanvir thrashes Ashiq

LAHORE, Dec 11: Fifteen  matches in all  six  different categories of boys and girls were decided in  straight  sets  on the second day of the sixth Haleeb All-Pakistan junior ranking tennis tournament on Wednesday.

In the Boys Under-18 singles, four matches were  played. Fifth seed Tanvir Ashiq thrashed Shahid Arshad 6- 2, 6-3. Ghulam Hussain outplayed Asif Riaz 6-2, 6-2. Fahad  Khan outclassed Ali Malik 6-0, 6-0.

In  the last match, Zaheer Ahmad proved  too  good  against Mohammad Malik 6-3, 6-3. In  the best match of the boys Under-14 section, top seed  Omer Babar was extended by Ahmad Aslam before winning 6-4, 6-4.

Tanvir Munir blasted Mohammad Malik 6-0, 6-0 while Talal  Khan beat Ali Sheikh 6-1,  6-2. Shahid  after losing his Under-18 match against Tanvir upset fifth seed Muhammad Mustafa 6-4, 6- 4.

The boys Under-12 competitions has entered the  semifinal stage with three quarterfinals being decided.

Top seed Heera Ashiq beat Bilal 6-0, 6-2, second seed Ibrahim Omer  had no problem in ousting Usman Sikandar  6-2,  6-1  while fourth  seed Waqas Malik out lassed Ali  Raza 6-1, 6-1.

The girls’ competitions in U-18 and U-14 have also started.

In the only match of the U-18 category , Shehla Nazir recovered to  beat Iram Arshad, 6-4, 6-4.

In  Under-14, unseeded Zainab Kalim created an upset defeating fourth  seed Saadia Karim 6-4, 6-2. Azra Amin earned an easy  win against Anjum Qasim 6-1, 6-2 and so did Zehra Ali against  Zarnab Amin 6-1, 6-0.
