LAHORE: Pakistan’s off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has set a target to become the world’s No.1 Test bowler and for the purpose he wants to be declared as the best bowler of the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka.
“My entire focus is on my bowling and as I have already been declared the best bowler in the last Test series against England, I will try my level best once again to excel on the tour of Sri Lanka,” Saeed told reporters before attending the training camp set up at the Gaddafi Stadium for the tour of Sri Lanka, starting from May 28.
“If pitches in Sri Lanka suit spinners, I along with Abdul Rehman will do our best to give tough time to Sri Lankan batsmen,” said Saeed, who has taken 107 wickets in 20 Tests at an average of 26.70.
“For the last two years my performance is good and I am focusing on further improvement to earn more laurels for the country,” added the spin bowler.
Answering a question, Saeed who has introduced a new delivery called ‘teesra,’ said it was not easy to create new delivery every time, adding that though he is working on yet another new delivery, the work is still under way to master it.
Stating that Sri Lanka had a good batting line-up having Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, he said his focus was only on practising hard to counter their batting strength.
The ace spinner said that since he is part of all three formats of the game he feels that he should also be a useful batsman in order to contribute 15 to 20 runs in final stages of the game.
“I am making efforts to improve my batting, since in ODIs and T20 matches every player has to perform with the bat as well,” Saeed remarked.
Answering a question, he said conditions in Sri Lanka have always been tough, adding: “I also made my debut in Sri Lanka and now I want to make my next tour memorable with an extraordinary performance,” he concluded.
Saeed took five wickets in Galle during his July 2009 Test debut and reached his top form in 2011 when he finished the year with 50 wickets in eight Tests.
