KARACHI, May 18: Departing from the years-old practice, the Sindh government on Friday announced that the summer vacation in schools and colleges of Sindh would begin on July 1 instead of June 1.

According to the press secretary to the chief minister of Sindh, the chief minister on the recommendation of the Sindh education department has approved the two-month summer vacation for educational institutions from July 1 to Aug 31.

No reason has been given by him for the change in the dates of the vacation.

Although the decision to delay summer vacation for a month has been disliked by many students and their parents, private schools’ management associations have welcomed it, saying the government had accepted their demand for a change made in view of Ramazan.

On the other hand, students called Dawn to express their reservation over the government’s decision.

They said the government had spoiled their plans made for the two-month summer vacation.

They said the unexpected announcement of summer vacation between July and August had disturbed their programmes, including their local and foreign visits.

The children also said that now they would only have 20 days for any recreational activity during summer vacation because most people liked to stay at home during the fasting month. Ramazan is likely to begin on July 20.

On the other hand, many private schools have already notified their students, parents and staff that the two-month summer vacation in their schools will begin on June 1.

Meanwhile, in a statement adviser to the Sindh chief minister on media Sharmila Farooqi appreciated the decision to observe summer vacation in July and August, adds APP.

She welcomed the decision of observing summer vacation in Ramazan and added that another positive aspect of the vacation in July-August was that it would be the monsoon season and the vacation would save students from unnecessary holidays and problems due to rains.
