HYDERABAD, Dec 11: The people held a demonstration at the Pakistan Chowk on Wednesday to protest against the accumulation of sewage and garbage in the localities of Pakistan Chowk, Phulelli Road, and Union Councils No12 and 13.

Addressing the rally, Malik Umed Ali, Mohammad Iqbal Bhatti, Shaukat Ali, and Abdus Sattar Qureshi said that the accumulation of sewage on the roads and garbage had made the lives of the people of Union Councils No12 and 13 miserable.

They said the residents of the localities had tried to approach the Nazims of the two union councils but they were not prepared to meet their constituents.

They said the people had exhausted their patience.

They warned that if the so-called public representatives did not change their attitude, then the people of the area would be compelled to stage a hunger strike outside the press club.

POST OFFICE EMPLOYEES: At least a dozen post office employees, whose services have been terminated by the department, have appealed to the federal government to take action against the senior officials of the postal department who have announced interviews for the appointment of fresh employees although the petitions of the retrenched employees were pending in the Sindh High Court and the federal ombudsman.

Talking to newsmen at the press club on Wednesday, Kamran Aziz, Imran Ghauri, Mohammad Rafique, and Abdul Khan said that the services of 569 employees of the postal department who had been appointed after completing all necessary formalities were terminated just after a month and seven days.

They said these employees had filed a writ petition in the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, which was fixed for hearing on Dec 17.

They claimed that the federal ombudsman had also summoned the postmaster general with all relevant records on Dec 16.

They, however, said that the officials had fixed interviews for fresh appointments on Dec 15.

They said the officials of the department had no right to make fresh appointments till the final decision was taken on the petitions by the Sindh High Court and the federal ombudsman.

They appealed that justice be provided to them.
