Gilani for removing irritants in rules of engagement with US

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday said the government is focusing on new rules of engagement with the United States and Nato in line with the recommendations of the parliamentary committee.

He said this here at the Prime Minister House on the occasion of visit of Chinese Youth Delegation under the Bilateral Youth Exchange Programme.

Responding to a question about the new rules of engagement with US/Isaf and Nato, the prime minister said, “We have received recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on the National Security (PCNS) and we are focusing on concrete issue aimed at removing the irritants.”

“We want to resolve the issue highlighted by the parliamentary committee for good,” he added.

Moreover, the prime minister said Pakistan wanted to maintain good relations with all its neighbours and nations of the world including the United States.

The premier said that Pakistan wanted to see a stable, prosperous, independent and sovereign Afghanistan, which would be in the best interest of the region.

It’s important to mention that Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has indicated today that the time has come to reopen the country’s Afghan border to Nato supplies, saying the government had made its point by closing the route for nearly six months in retaliation for deadly US airstrikes on its troops.
