Two security men injured in Waziristan convoy attack

MIRAMSHAH, May 13: Two security personnel were injured when a bomb ripped through a convoy in North Waziristan on Sunday, official sources said.

The convoy was going to Razmak when one of the vehicles hit the bomb near the Tall checkpost as two gunship helicopters hovered over it. The injured personnel were taken to hospital.

The area is under a curfew.

Tension looms large in the region after clashes between security forces and militants in Miramshah on May 6. Fourteen security personnel, 10 civilians and 17 militants were killed in the gunbattles.

According to reports, a large number of militants left Miramshah after the fighting for undisclosed locations. Many families in adjoining areas also vacated homes and moved to Bannu district, Mirali and other safe places.

Streets in the agency headquarters remained deserted and most shops were shut.

Meanwhile, security forces defused two bombs on the Bannu-Miramshah Road.

SHELLING: Eight mortar shells fired from across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border landed in Ghulam Khan tehsil on Sunday, officials said. The shells did not cause any damage.
