England’s misery continues

CANBERRA, Dec 10: Former Australia Test batsman Mark Waugh smashed a quick 42 to lead his Prime Minister’s XI invitational side to a four-wicket win over England on Tuesday in a further blow to the touring side’s morale.

Opening batsman Marcus Trescothick, who captained England in place of the injured Nasser Hussain, said it was a bad loss for a team already lacking in confidence.

England, who have not won a game on their Australia tour, were bowled out for 152 in 40.4 overs in the match at Canberra’s Manuka Oval reduced to 42-overs-a-side because of rain.

The Australia Prime Minister’s XI, captained by 37-year-old Waugh, reached 153 for six in 31.4 overs.

The triangular limited-overs international tournament, which includes Sri Lanka, starts on Friday when Australia host England in Sydney.
