KARACHI, May 7: The Tracing Committee for Missing Persons of Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Sindh, has decided to join hands with the National Database and Registration Authority and other local authorities in order to gain better results in locating missing persons.

“The Red Cross and Red Crescent Society has a humanitarian scope. Despite the difficulties we face, we try not to involve governments as on principle we have always carried on with our duties with neutrality and impartiality,” said chairman of the Tracing Committee for Missing Persons for Sindh Mahfooz un Nabi Khan at a media briefing organised at Hilal-e-Ahmer House here on the eve of the World Red Cross/Red Crescent Day on Monday.

“Many people went missing during the floods in Sindh last year. Of the 23 people we were approached to search for, we have found 17 so far, but things can improve with us getting better results provided we change our strategy,” said the volunteer.

“The normal practice followed by us after receiving a missing person’s complaint is to trace the people from their last known addresses. This is a set procedure followed by all our branches the world over,” he added.

“But now we have decided on this new plan to involve Nadra and the police to recover missing individuals.”

He said that Nadra had a huge database. “And the police can help us further in locating the people. Our standard of tracing will definitely improve by combining forces this way,” he explained.

“We are also going to introduce our new tracing plan on our website soon after the completion of Red Crescent Week,” he concluded.
