LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Monday adjourned the hearing of a petition to May 21, filed by Jamaatud Daawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and his aide Hafiz Abdur Rehman Makki for security following an announcement of a bounty on them by the United States.

Earlier, a deputy attorney general appeared before the court and submitted that comments from the interior ministry were still awaited. The DAG requested the court to grant time for filing the comments.

The CJ adjourning the matter directed law officers to ensure comments from respondents by the next date of hearing.

The petitioners said that Pakistani courts had exonerated Hafiz Saeed from charges leveled against him by India and the US.

However, the US recently announced $ 10 million bounty on Hafiz Saeed besides $ 03 million on Abdur Rehman Makki, they added.

They contended that the step was taken on the instigation of India as the US under secretary of state made the announcement of head money while visiting India.

The petitioners contended that it was a clear breach of international law as no foreign state had the right to interfere with liberty and security of citizens of another sovereign nation.

They pleaded that the respondents be directed to protect the petitioners as per the constitution and make arrangements for their security.

They also requested that the respondents be directed to seek withdrawal of the announcement of bounty.
