ISLAMABAD: Former Law Minister Babar Awan on Monday filed another application in the Supreme Court, offering an unconditional apology to the apex court over his derogatory remarks.
“I express regret over the comments I passed during a media talk and unconditionally apologize for uttering the remarks which led to cancellation of my license for practicing law,” said application filed by Advocate Raja Abdul Ghafoor on behalf of the former law minister.
The application states that whatever Awan had stated in the press conference was unintentional, based on inadvertence, and that the applicant is offering an unconditional apology for the utterances that have shown him to be disrespectful to the court.
“I don’t want any defense lawyer in my case,” Awan stated in the application, requesting that his apology be accepted.
Moreover, Awan pleaded to the court that his license be restored as it was his only source of income.
He said that the petitioner is a professional regular practicing lawyer and, therefore, has no other source of livelihood which is fundamental right of the petitioner who stands suspended ever since passage of the order on January 17,2012.
The application further states that, due to temporary suspension of the petitioner’s license, a significant number of litigants who had engaged the petitioner over a period of years were suffering irreparable losses and his staff were also facing hardships.
It is pertinent to mention here that Awan had already tendered an apology to the court in April. However, the SC bench has yet to decide if it is to admit Awan’s plea for apology.
