PESHAWAR, April 30: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar has called for timely payment of wages to their workforce, proper building of their capacity and best use of their capabilities for their wellbeing and national development.
“The core message, which we derive from the Islamic teachings, binds us to pay the dues of labour to workers before their sweat is dried up. In wake of ever advancing technological advancement, the situation demands extra and constant efforts to ensure capacity building of workers; train them and up-date their knowledge and skills to better utilise their potential for the progress on the nation. This is also an efficient way of ensuring their well being and that of their families,” he said in a message for May Day.
The governor said May 1 highlighted sacrifices offered by Chicago labourers for upholding their rights and dignity of their work.
“Their justified action impressed the world community so much that we have decided to observe the day internationally with the basic aim to promote realisation about the importance of labour and protection of the rights of workers,” he said.
Mr Kausar said difference in quality and level of facilities between the developed and egalitarian societies and the developing societies was the result of their realisation about importance of labour and the volume of investments that they made in this respect.
He said Pakistan being a signatory to all international pacts and obligations for upholding rights of workers and part of a Muslim state felt duty bound to fulfill all related responsibilities.
The governor said in view of challenges faced by the nation, labourers and entrepreneurs should ensure best use of available resources and maintain unity to enhance their output.
Meanwhile, the governor on Monday praised the bar associations for ensuring dispensation of justice to people.
“The bars as civic bodies are the respectable institutions and their role in serving the people towards provision of justice is indeed acknowledged with confidence and respect,” he told a District Bar Association, Mansehra, delegates, who called on him at the Governor’s House in Peshawar.
DBA, Mansehra, president Shah Jehan Khan Swati led the visitors, who were his cabinet colleagues.
Mr Kausar said bars being one of the most efficient institution amongst the civic bodies carries great importance for their role in educating people as well who indeed were justified in expecting impartial role of bars.
He said being citizens of a developing country, Pakistanis were indeed faced with tremendous problems and delivery of justice being the primary requirement of citizens was though the basic responsibility of state as well yet the role of the bars was also of great importance in enabling people for achieving desired goals.
The governor later delivered a cheque of one million rupees to Mr Swati for the DBA Mansehra in line with an announcement made some time ago.
