Cabinet on board with PM over filing review petition

ISLAMABAD: A special session of the federal cabinet in Islamabad on Thursday supported the measure of filing a review petition challenging Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s conviction for contempt of court, DawnNews reported.

The session went underway shortly after Prime Minister Gilani was convicted.

During the session, Law Minister Farooq H. Naek and Attorney General Irfan Qadir briefed the cabinet members on the apex court’s verdict and its possible implications which were being discussed during the meeting.

The prime minister told the cabinet members that he respected the court’s decision.

Governors from all four provinces as well as chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab provinces were present during the session.

Earlier, the Pakistan People’s Party leadership had decided that a petition would be filed in the court for a review of the verdict.
