HYDERABAD, Dec 9: The Market police registered a case against a sub-inspector of the investigation police, Amir Hafeez Kakakhel, and three other police officials on Monday following the escape of two accused from their custody.

Besides Kakakhel, Head Constable Ali Sher and two constables, Liaquat and Ghulam Mohammad, have also been booked after the two accused, Naveed and Tariq Pathan (both cousins), escaped from the Market police station.

The investigation police officer, Amir Kakakhel, had arrested Naveed and Tariq from Pathan Colony in connection with a robbery in which a rangers official, Tariq Mehmood, was deprived of Rs36,000.

Both the accused were said to have been identified by Tariq during the course of interrogation. Both remained under police remand for eight days. However, they soon found an opportunity and escaped.

The SHO of the police station, Ejaz Bhatti, collected the account of eyewitnesses who claimed to have seen the accused fleeing.

He claimed that Tariq had surrendered before the police but Naveed still remained absconding.

He said that none of the police officials booked under sections 223 and 224 PPC had been arrested so far.

Naveed’s brother, Jan Mohammad, in a telegram has accused Amir Kakakhel of demanding Rs100,000 from him otherwise he and his friends would be implicated in false cases.

He said that when he paid Rs100,000 to SIP Kakakhel, Naveed was released, and added that the SIP promised to release Tariq soon but instead started harassing him again.

He called for an inquiry.

SIP Amir Kakakhel has applied for bail before arrest in the case before a civil judge.

SIP KAKAKHEL: When this correspondent contacted Amir Kakakhel on the phone, he said that he had no personal enmity with Naveed and Tariq Pathan, and added that both of them were involved in many cases of heinous crimes.

He said that all these cases had been lodged by other police officials. He said that the accused had no concern with any transport service and were criminals.
