KARACHI: On the appeal of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), a complete strike was observed in rural areas of Sindh while a partial strike was observed in Hyderabad.

Markets in interior Sindh were mostly shut while public transport was barely visible on the roads.

JSQM activists were protesting against what they called a “vague” postmortem report of their deceased party chairman Bashir Ahmed Qureshi.

The party had expressed dissatisfaction over the latest medical report on the death, and appealed to the people of Sindh to observe a peaceful strike on Saturday in support of the party’s demand for ‘fair and transparent’ investigation by the United Nations.

In Hyderabad, most of the markets remained open; however, shops were closed in Qasimabad, Naseem Nagar and other Sindhi-speaking localities.

In Karachi, no strike was observed and all markets remained open, with roads buzzing with public transport as usual.

Police and rangers, however, patrolled in sensitive areas to ensure law and order.
