LHWs threaten to boycott anti-polio drive

MARDAN, April 17: Lady Health Workers on Tuesday threatened to boycott the anti-polio campaign starting from April 23, if their charter of demand was not approved and implemented till April 20 by the relevant quarters. The demands include payment of dues and regularisation of services.

The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the lady health workers which was presided over by their provincial president Almeena Iftikhar and attended by a large number of LHWs.

The participants said the provincial government had been ignoring their rights despite the fact that they had been working with full enthusiasm to protect children from permanent disabilities. They threatened to boycott the upcoming anti-polio drive starting on April 23 if their problems were not redressed till April 20.

JIRGA THREATENS: Aman Jirga, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has threatened to launch protest demonstrations against the provincial government and Mardan police if a local trader Farman Ali Khan, who was kidnapped three months ago, was not recovered within a week.

The jirga, which met on Tuesday with Syed Kamal Shah in the chair, expressed concern over government’s failure to protect life and property of the citizens.
