LAHORE, April 15: The ‘love-affair’ of Punjab PPP’s former information secretary Dr Fakharuddin Chaudhry with the PML-N ended 50 days after he joined it formally.
Dr Fakhar has apologised to the party leadership for his ‘foolish’ decision and vowed to continue political struggle on the platform of his parent party he remained associated with for 30 years.
Returning unconditionally Fakhar told a news conference on Sunday that he regretted his decision of joining the PML-N for even a ‘brief period.’
Giving reasons for quitting the PPP, he said he had certain expectations like becoming a senator from his party but they could not be met. “Out of frustration I quit the PPP and joined the PML-N. But soon I realised my mistake as Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif turned out to be a ‘dictator’ and no-one in the PML-N dares to oppose him on any issue,” he said, alleging that Shahbaz Sharif was “mentally sick” and he should be in the Fountain House for treatment instead of the chief minister’s house.
A source in the PPP told Dawn that Fakhar had got frustrated with the PML-N too after those who had facilitated his joining the PML-N offered no help in ‘accommodating’ him in the party. “Fakhar was promised a PML-N ticket besides accommodating him in his business matters by the provincial government but he was simply dumped in the party. It left Fakhar with no other option but to return to his parent party,” the source said.
