LAHORE, April 14: Top seed Aqeel Khan will take on his younger brother Jalil Khan in the final of the Atlas Honda All-Pakistan tennis championship as both won their respective semi-finals at the Model Town Club on Saturday.
While Aqeel Khan outclassed Mohammad Abid in the first semi-final with the score of 6-4, 6-3, Jalil eliminated the challenge of his brother Yasir Khan 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Aqeel, after missing some opportunities earlier to break serves of Abid, eventually did it in the 10th game when Abid lost two points consecutively due to double faults.
In fact, Aqeel had created trouble for himself, allowing Abid to stretch the set by making unforced errors and missing backhand shots despite also hitting a volley in the net.
In the second pre-final, Yasir fought well against Jalil and stretched it to the tie-break.
However, Jalil won the tiebreaker 7-4.
In the second set Jalil managed to break Yasir’s serve in the very first game and won it quite easily.
Aqeel and Jalil had won the men’s doubles final, defeating the pair of Heera Ashiq and Khurram Nazir 6-4, 6-2.
In Boys’ singles under 18, Mohammad Mudassar annexed the title, defeating Ahmed Babar in final 6-4, 6-3.
Moreover, Government College Lahore beat Garrison Academy 2-0 in the final of school/college team events.
