SUKKUR: Mr Abdul Fattah Memon, the only rival of Mr Z.A. Bhutto, Minister for Fuel, Power and Natural Resources, today withdrew his nomination paper, ensuring the unopposed election of Mr Bhutto to the National Assembly, according to a report from Larkana.Mr Bhutto is seeking election to National Assembly from Constituency No. N.W. 67 Larkana One.

A message from Larkana says that the news spread like wildfire in the town and there was great jubilation. Soon Mr Bhutto’s house was thronged by hundreds of visitors, who came with garlands and bouquets to greet him. Simultaneously telephone calls and telegraphs of congratulations started pouring in from all over the former Sind and other parts of the country. Development in Khairpur KHAIRPUR: Chaudhri Niaz Ahmed, Commissioner, Khairpur division, told a Press conference here on Saturday that Sukkur and Khairpur will shortly have satellite townships. He said that a survey of housing requirements at both these towns of the division was being conducted and would be completed shortly.

The Commissioner said a master plan for the development of all district towns in Khairpur division were under preparation and Khairpur, Sukkur and Larkana will shortly have master plan for their development.

No construction at these places will take place till master plans are finalised, he said, and observed [that] we must check the haphazard growth of towns.

The Commissioner told a questioner that until now 1,233 bad characters had been tried in courts throughout the division in a campaign launched against bad characters and undesirable elements.

Police administration was taking every possible preventative measure to check lawlessness in the area.

The Commissioner disclosed that a Special Military Court had been constituted at Nawabshah for dealing with gangsters and notorious criminals and 23 cases had been disposed of by the court so far. — Agencies
