JI stages sit-in against increase in oil prices

LAHORE, April 9: Scores of Jamaat-i-Islami workers staged a rally on Monday and staged a sit-in at Akbar Chowk in Township to protest the recent raise in POL prices and a massive price hike.

Led by JI Secretary-General Liaquat Baloch, the workers chanted slogans against the government, asking the rulers to step down.

Addressing the protesters, Baloch said President Zardari was visiting the shrines of saints to hide his corruption and donate dollars to caretakers of shrines.

“But he (Zardari) is ignoring the fact that many poor people in our country are committing suicide due to starvation,” he deplored.

The JI secretary-general said if Zardari had any fear of Allah, he should bring back all his ill-gotten wealth to the country for the welfare of the masses.

He pointed out that at least 170 corruption cases were pending against the president which were yet to be decided.

Similarly, he said dozens of such cases were also pending against PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif which had shaken the public confidence in the Supreme Court.
