KARACHI, April 5: The Karachi Electric Supply Company has launched a voluntary ‘load assessment scheme’ for residential and commercial customers.
The power utility spokesperson said on Thursday that the aim of this scheme was to move towards ensuring a stable and dedicated power supply across the city by rationalising investment in the power distribution infrastructure.
Under this self-declaration scheme, customers would be required to give details of all electrical appliances and equipment present on their premises, through a self-assessment form, the added.
“The scheme will enable the KESC to regularise the yet undisclosed but connected load and to determine the investment required to upgrade the electricity distribution infrastructure so as to bear the current quantum of power supply.
“The customer’s stating their details, through the said ‘load declaration form’ will get their current load regularised and such consumers will be prioritised in terms of upgrading their area networks, relieving them from the troubles of power surges, voltage fluctuations and wire breaks, which can threaten appliances and equipment.
“The existing power supply infrastructure that was designed according to the initial load declared decades ago has now generally become vulnerable due to the extra load that consumers have added on over the years without updating the records of the power company.
“The above form will be sent to the residential and commercial customers along with their monthly electricity bills through this scheme,” The KESC official added.
The KESC urged its consumers to avail this limited time offer for self-declaration to remove any discrepancies in their authorised load and after the submission of the declaration form, KESC officials might also inspect the premises of the customer to verify the stated connected load.
The KESC spokesperson further stated that the load self-assessment scheme was for general supply consumers only and any other categories or types of consumers would not be eligible to use this scheme and would need to contact the KESC directly for sanction and regularisation of extension of load.
