LAHORE, Dec 5: After the announcement of moon-sighting on Thursday, people in Lahore spilled out in city markets and shopping centres for the last-minute Eid shopping.

Many people set off fireworks when the moon was sighted.

The main concentration of Eid shoppers was at Liberty Market, Anarkali and Kashmiri Bazaar, where extraordinary security arrangements had been made to prevent any untoward incident and provide security to women.

Police made special efforts to regulate traffic at Liberty Market, and kept an eye on hooligans.

There was also a big rush on The Mall and at scores of other markets elsewhere in the huge city. People mainly bought shoes, ready-made garments, bangles and henna. Vermicelli, sweets and cakes, too, were in great demand.

There was a great rush at flower shops as people bought garlands for the Huffaz who had led Taraveeh prayers during the Ramazan. Many people will also lay flowers at the graves of their relatives after Eid prayers on Friday. The shopping extravaganza continued till the early hours of Friday.
