MW transmission to resume from Khairpur soon

KHAIRPUR, April 2: Members of the United Staff Organisation (USO) Radio Pakistan Khairpur Station celebrated the decision to restore medium wave (MW) transmission by taking out a rally on Monday.

PPP MNA Nafisa Shah addressing the participants at Jilani Houses said Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had issued directives - for immediate restoration of MW service and a cheque of Rs87 million to the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).

The MW transmission was a gift by the Z.A. Bhutto to the people of Khairpur among which were singers, drama artists and instrumentalists who entertained the listeners and also earned their livelihood, she said adding the 100 kilowatt digital transmission will be installed at the present site meant for High Power Transmission (HPT). The transmission could be received in a radius of 200km during the daytime and 600km at night, she said.

Director General, PBC, Murtaza Solangi is expected to visit the station soon and will finally decide about the installation of transmission after taking inot confidence officials, labour leaders and people living in and around, she said.

Leaders of the USO Ilyas Lashari, Malook Khoso and Feroze Phulpoto said the MW transmission was being enjoyed since last 29 years in far and wide areas of upper Sindh.

They hoped the people will soon hear the old voice which was shut down on November 29, 2010.

The rally started from Phool Bagh and was largely attended by the poets, singers and radio common people.
