ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government has revoked former law minister Babar Awan from the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS), DawnNews reported on Saturday.

The meeting of Parliamentary Committee on National Security is going on and Kaira is attending the meeting.

Sources had said that Qamar Zaman Kaira will replace Awan.

“Kaira’s notice for the appointment has also been released,” they added.

Reports emanating from the party suggest that the president is not happy with his former law minister because he has let down the prime minister.

Awan had refused to testify in the contempt of court case against the PM and had also asked law secretary Pir Masood Chishti not to do so either.

“When I needed a witness in the court, men refused but a woman sided with me,” the prime minister had said on March 8, referring to Awan’s refusal to testify on his behalf.

Party sources say Awan’s refusal to testify has earned him the ire of the party leadership, especially the president.
