ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday demanded assurance from the treasury benches regarding the implementation of the report of Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS).
Speaking on a point of order before formal debate on foreign policy in the joint sitting of the parliament, Nisar said that his party would take part in the debate if the government removed their reservations regarding some clauses.
He said that the issue of national security should have been discussed in the very beginning. He, however, appreciated the government for initiating debate on the important issue.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader said that there were some useful proposals in the report but some clauses were against national security and sovereignty.
He said the present parliament had already passed two joint resolutions to ensure national security, which had not been implemented.
The leader of opposition said the parliament should send a message to the world that Pakistanis were a self-respecting nation.
He also criticised late start of the joint sitting of the parliament and asked the Chair to devise a mechanism for in time start of the proceedings.
The house suspended the rules of procedure and conduct of business to initiate discussion on the Report of the PCNS.
