SEVEN years ago the Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS) was established with a vision that it would educate and enlighten the Baloch youth.
But all these dreams have been shattered by rampant malpractices in the university.
Not to speak of modern educational facilities in the university even basic educational necessities are not available such as classrooms. The university gives an impression that it is nothing more than a primary school. There are only four buildings in the university. The buildings which were constructed only four years ago have cracked because of sub-standard construction material. It can lead to any tragedy anytime. The tenders of the construction were given on the basis of nepotism which will continue if unchecked by the higher authorities.
The malpractices have not only destroyed the infrastructure but students are also being affected. The situation is alarming as students are becoming drug addicts because there is not a single ground where they could engage in sports activities.
The teachers are forced to teach in LUAWMS intermediate college and take evening classes on a remuneration of Rs40 per class.
Seven years have elapsed but the university administration has not been able to recognize its DVM degree from the Higher Education Commission. The university has not been able to meet the criteria set by the HEC. It has no laboratories and staff. All the deans in the university are retired professors and serving on contracts.
I request the authorities concerned to please save the university and the Baloch youth from destruction.
