CHITRAL, March 25: The border police were recently reinvigorated to stop entry of militants into the district from Nuristan province of Afghanistan, said Chitral District Coordination Officer Rahmatullah Wazir.

He was addressing a function held here the other day in connection with distribution of compensation amount among the widows and heirs of the personnel of the force, who had been killed during skirmish with Taliban intruders in the month of Ramazan last in Arsoon area.

On the occasion, the widows and heirs of the five slain personnel -- Abdul Ghafar, Mohammad Islam, Mohammad Azam, Salahuddin and Mursaleen Khan -- were given Rs800,000 each under the head of Shuhada Package on behalf of home and tribal affairs department.

Keeping in view its importance, the force was not only strengthened numerically but was also being provided with sophisticated weapons to meet any challenge, Mr Wazir said.

He said that rider squad had recently been added to the force while checkposts in the border area were being fortified with all the required facilities.
