Pakistan Steel beat Navy

KARACHI, March 23: Fine batting by Tasawwar Abbas helped Pakistan Steel earn a winning draw by a close margin of three wickets over Pakistan Navy in the Qualifier Cricket League fixture at the Quaid-i-Azam Park Cricket Ground in Steel Township here on Friday.

Tasawwar struck 81 from 63 balls as Pakistan Steel achieved victory by reaching 270-7 in 49 overs after Navy had made 267-6 in their stipulated 50 overs. Tasawwar, whose innings was laced with five sixes and eight boundaries, received good support from Mohammad Sohail (47 off 58 balls, seven fours), Ijaz Ahmed (35) and all-rounder Nadeem Abbasi who remained undefeated with 32.

Earlier, Jahangir Shah held together Navy’s innings with a solid 82 after Pakistan Steel asked them to bat first upon winning the toss. His 141-ball contained 10 hits to the fence. Tanvir Hussain (48 off 66 balls, three fours and one six) and Umar Nawaz (38 off 22, four boundaries and a brace of sixes) were the other notable run-getters.

Nadeem Abbasi was the pick of Pakistan Steel’s bowlers with three wickets for 55 runs.

Pakistan Steel collected 20 total points, including maximum 10 batting points. Navy claimed 11 total points.
