ISLAMABAD, Dec 4: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), as an operator, has made another oil and gas discovery, their sixth over a period of eight months, as a befitting Eid-ul-Fitr gift to the nation.

The joint venture includes OGDCL 76 per cent, OPI 19 per cent, and GHPL 5 per cent. This discovery has been made on Kaheem Daho well, located 22kms south-east of Sanghar in Sindh province.

Hakeem Daho structure in Sinjhoro Exploration License was delineated, drilled and tested by OGDCL’s in-house expertise. The well was drilled down to the depth of 3210 meters, targeting to test the potential Massive Sands of Lower Goru formation of Cretaceous age. After detailed analysis, two zones were selected for testing.

Initial short-duration test of Zone-1 in the Massive Sand on half inch choke size has produced 250 barrels of condensate per day having an API gravity of 51 degrees, with 5.5 Million Cubic Feet gas per day at wellhead flowing pressure of 1300 Psi. This will save US $9 million of precious foreign exchange per annum.

The potential of additional Zone-2 of Massive Sand member in the well which will be tested shortly, is expected to add to the hydrocarbon quantity substantially.

This will save US $9 million of precious foreign exchange per annum.

This is the seventh discovery made by OGDCL: in barely over a year. It may be recalled that the earlier six discoveries had resulted in 8,500 barrels of oil and 50 million cubic feet of gas per day which will contribute US $130 million towards import substitution.

The company’s present production level is 24,500 barrel of oil, 800 cubic feet of gas,210 metric tons of LPG and 60 metric tons of Sulphur per day.
