Police fail to rearrest murder accused

GUJRANWALA, Dec 4: The main accused involved in the killing of the PPP city president and who escaped from police custody two days ago could not be rearrested.

The DPO warned the officials of the Sabzi Mandi police to rearrest the accused within a week otherwise they would be taken to task.

Hafiz Jamal was arrested a few days ago from Peoples Colony, but he escaped from the police station mysteriously in the presence of several policemen.

Complainant Muhammad Afzal Mehr, a former councillor and cousin of deceased Khalid Humayun, alleged the police had released Jamal with the abetment of the accused party. He told senior police officers that their lives were in danger after the escape of the main accused. He demanded of them that accused Jamal and sons of Haji Muhammad Sidiq should immediately be arrested.

When contacted, the SHO concerned said the main accused was Mustafa Kamal, the brother of Hafiz Jamal, who was still in police custody. He said Hafiz Jamal was only a suspect.

The accused involved in the killing of Chaudhry Khalid Humayun had disappeared while the police sealed their shops and business centres.
