ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law Maula Bakhsh Chandio on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani acted on the advice given by the law ministry about writing a letter to the Swiss authorities which was according to law and the constitution.

Talking to Pakistan Television (PTV), he said the law ministry was the second largest institution in the country after the judiciary, to interpret the constitution.

“The prime minister had stated twice that he could not even think about contempt of court which means he respects the judiciary,” said Chandio.

He said Pakistan People's Party (PPP) believes in independence of judiciary and the prime minister has proved it by appearing twice before the court.

The PPP leadership has played an important role for independence of judiciary, he added.

Replying to a question he said, “PM hired a leading advocate for his case and they know well about law and its protection.”
