LAHORE, March 19: Students of Punjab University evening classes on Monday staged a protest rally on varsity campus and demanded that they should also be given laptops.
The students, mostly girls, walked from PU Undergraduate Study Centre to the university main gate.
They chanted slogans that they should also be given laptops. They said they were earlier registered by the Punjab government and they received confirmation messages as well as phone calls. However, they said the government later decided not to give them laptops.
Earlier, the Punjab government held a high level meeting at PU Undergraduate Study Centre to review arrangements for the distribution of laptops at a ceremony to be held at PU Law College ground on March 23.
The meeting was attended by Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Adviser to Chief Minister Khwaja Ahmed Hassan, MPA and member Syndicate Khwaja Imran Nazir, MPA Hafiz Mian Nauman, Higher Education Secretary Dr Ejaz Munir, Secretary Information Mohayuddin Wani, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, university officials, top police officials and other administrative officials. Later, Prof Kamran presided over a meeting of heads of various departments of the varsity at the same venue that reviewed arrangements regarding the event.
