First ADB loan for Kabul

MANILA, Dec 3: Afghanistan is set to get its first loan in 23 years from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Philippines-based lender said on Tuesday.

The ADB board is expected to approve the loan on Wednesday, a bank statement said.

The ADB suspended lending operations to Kabul in 1979 as that country descended into war and chaos.

The bank has since pledged to play a major role in the country’s rehabilitation.—AFP
