KARACHI, March 16: Junior international Iqra Saeed pulled off a major upset when she humbled junior Karachi champion Farah Ilyas 3-1 in the final to clinch girls’ under-18 title in the Smash Polio Out open table tennis tournament at Islamia Club on Friday.

Iqra of PWD won the best of five clash 12-10, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5.

Salman Saleem, who finished runner-up to eventual champion Tabish Khursheed in the boys’ under-18 singles of Karachi championship, ended the winning run of Aahil Shah to claim the crown in the same category.

Salman recovered from deficit to post 7-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-9 victory over his opponent who shocked Tabish the other day.

Usman Ahmed and Mohsin Raza set a date while cruising into men’s singles final. The former overcame seasoned Khwaja Kashif 12-10, 8-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-3, 7-11, 11-7 while the latter whipped Kamran Sarang 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9 in the best of seven semi-finals.

The women’s singles final will be an all family affair after Maliha Khursheed and her sister Ghalia Mohsin won their semi-finals in contrasting styles.Maliha struggled to beat Qurat-ul-Ain 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9 while Ghalia was home straight 11-5, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8 against Farah Ilyas.
