LAHORE, March 14: The Government College University, Lahore, will have an integrated waste management system on its campus with the collaboration of the Lahore Waste Management Company.

A proposal to this effect was presented by the LWMC during a ceremony arranged by the Environment Protection Society (EPS) of the GCU in connection with its ongoing cleanliness week on Wednesday.

Under the system, LWMC's contractor Albayrak would install two waste containers on the campus on March 17 that will be emptied on a regular basis to further strengthen the waste management system of the university.

During the ceremony at the Noon Meem Rashid Hall, LWMC Senior Manager Planning Nusrat Gill and Manager Communication Memoona Arslan shared their operational experiments besides communication and awareness related experiences with the Ravians spreading over the last one-and-a-half years.

Through presentations regarding strategies of the company, the LWMC officials also briefed the participants about the upcoming international standard cleanliness services in the city in partnership with Turkish companies.

After screening a documentary about the company services, including door-to-door waste collection, transportation of waste to disposal site, manual and mechanical sweeping and washing of roads, they said that community's role in general and students' role in particular was very important in bringing about a positive change in the cleanliness of the city.

EPS Adviser Uzair Ahson and president Tehreem Raza thanked the LWMC for being active in educational institutions and taking maximum number of students in loop of awareness and sensitization.

Later, the EPS presented a shield to the LWMC for its efforts in making communities participate in waste-related awareness activities.
