This is the season of the power ladies—women beating all odds to win in their field without sacrificing their femininity! That begins from their attire—no more androgynous garb. Fashionistas are advising women to “retain your strength and exude power but at the same time look loving, homely, fragile and like a delicate lady.’’ And to attain this, what better way to dress than in flowers!

Yes, the summer season is already here, and you have to look glamorous in the sweltering sun. Now the mantra is to look cool. The best way to do this is to dress up in cottons, silks, linen, mulmul, chiffons—all printed, embossed or embroidered with nature’s bounty—flowers, leaves etc. Floral is hot this season.

Both on the domestic and international circuit fashionistas are going floral be it in their attire or accessories. Floral-inspired dresses, pants, skirts, saris, tops, gowns, shalwar kameez, bags, jewellery, shoes, hair bands etc have either completely floral motifs or a single colourful flower motif featured on them. Mumbai based designer duo Jai-Parvesh agreed that prints are here once again. “Nature, floral and geometrical prints are in fashion nowadays,” they said.

Even the clothes shown at the Lakme Fashion Week had a lot of florals prints on them. It is everywhere and with the onset of summer every celebrity is hunting for a wardrobe with a number of floral designs. Even in the international ramps, designer brands like Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Dolce and Gabbana and several others have come up with floral print collections.

Take Delhi-based designer Tarun Tahiliani. In the recently concluded Wills Lifestyle fashion week, he had models walking the ramp in gorgeous red gowns which had large golden flowers embroidered on the bottom hem line or in black flare pants with an ankle length floral print lose jacket accessorized by a floral neck piece. Pooja Arya, the Jaipur-based designer who had also showcased at the Wills Lifestyle fshion week in Delhi said, “It is the season of happy prints, vibrant colours and the best way to get this is going for floral or nature prints.”

The best part of going floral is their bright colours and striking print which brings out the best in people. And there is no end to the choice of such dresses—a gown, maxi dress, frocks, jumpsuit, a simple top, sari, kameez, Patiala suit—each has its own grace.

And summer is the best time to show them off. Some dresses are soft in colour with tiny flowered patterns while others may have large prints and bright colours. These are ideal for mix and match and can even be worn with jackets, blazers and leggings.

They can be worn with heels, flat shoes, wedges and boots to bring back that young look. And another plus point of these prints is that they can adapt to every budget!

Though there is no restriction as to who should or shouldn’t wear floral, Jai-Parvesh advised that, “Prints can be worn by everybody but there are certain things which has to be always taken care of. If you are too short avoid big motif prints and horizontal lines; when you are fat you should go for small prints on waist area and may be a little bigger print on chest and hip area so that you look in proper shape and size.”

In case if you have a dress code at office, you can still look happy by pairing your attire with a floral scarf, floral footwear, bag or even beautiful hairclips. And if you don’t have any dress code, floral dresses matched with bright bags display a chic style.

Classy, stylish floral dresses are ideal for work and casual wear and do not look out of place at a special function.  And if you are going out partying in the night and plan to wear simple mono—colour attire, opt for floral motif jewellery—maybe a cuff, a bracelet, a pair of bangles or a belt! Go floral, look chic and enjoy the summer! n
