KARACHI: Two lady legislatures of the ruling coalition Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional in Sindh Assembly on Tuesday were engaged in heated arguments on a resolution demanding recognition of adoptive parents in identity documents of orphaned children.

Information Minister Shahzia Marri opposed the contents of the resolution moved by PML-F’s Marvi Rashdi in strong words and accused her of not conducting prior research on the issues raised through the resolution.

The bickering ensued when Marri termed Marvi’s resolution speech as trivial, stirring the PML-F MPA to respond strongly.

Witnessing the ruckus being intensified, Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro intervened and asked Marri that she was not entitled to dictate a member of the assembly.

The speaker said every member had the right to move a resolution; however, assessing its content and sensitivity was the responsibility of a mover.

Marvi, while elucidating the body of her resolution, said the core purpose for introducing such resolution was to secure basic fundamental right and providing parental identity to orphaned children who are abandoned by their biological parents for different reasons.

Initially she had also urged the chair to entertain views of all party members on the matter, be it positive or negative, so that issue could be settled.

The resolution was later withdrawn by the mover on its legality.
