Need to improve Kashful Mahjoob translations
LAHORE, March 5: Punjab University vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that there is a need to rectify and improve the translations of Kashful Mahjoob from Persian to other languages and held all concerned responsible for the inaccuracies.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of a one-day conference on “Kashful Mahjoob, Critical Analyses of Printing and Translations” organised by the Punjab University’s Hajveri Chair in collaboration with the teaching and research departments of Oriental College at Sherani Hall, Allama Iqbal (Old) Campus here on Monday.
The VC expressed the hope that this conference would not only help scholars share ideas with each other but also make students realised that there was a lot of space and areas to work on. He advised the students to master their subjects, language and history and enhance their knowledge by developing reading habits.
Prof Dr Zahoor Ahmed said Kashful Mahjoob was a great and first book on Tasawwuf (mysticism) in Persian. Unfortunately, he said, all the editions of the book carried mistakes.
However, he said, a Russian and an Iranian scholar, Dr Mahmood Abidi, had worked hard on bringing an accurate edition. He said that it would be a matter of pride for the PU if it published the best edition of the book which would be used for citation.
Prof Abdul Jabbar, Prof Muhammad Illyas Azmi, Dr Humayyun Abbas, Dr Ismatullah, Dr Ghulam Moeenuddin Nizami, DrTahseen Faraqi and Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori also spoke on the occasion.
ADMISSION DATE: The PU examinations department has issued the revised schedule of submission of admission fee and forms for MA/MSc, Part-I Annual Examination 2012.
According to new schedule, the last date for submission of admission forms and fee for private candidates with single fee is March 16 and with double fee is March 26. Theexamination will begin from July 20.
RESULTS: The PU examinations department on Monday declared the results of BA/BSc special annual examination for 2011 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and BA/BSc special supplementary examination for 2010 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
