Two killed in accident

ATTOCK, March 3: Two persons including a police man were killed while five others sustained injuries in a road accident near Sanjwal Chowk on GT Road.

Police said on Saturday that a speeding car smashed into a parked truck. Resultantly, car driver Jameel Shah died on the pot while four others including Nabeel Shah, Shah Nawaz, Razaullah and Jamal Shah sustained serious injuries. Meanwhile, two motorcyclists ran into the damaged truck and car. As a result, Police constable Azhar Iqbal died on the spot while his colleague Shakir Shah was seriously injured. On information, Rescue 1122 and police officials rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies and injured to the DHQ hospital. — Correspondent

Courts, lawyers’ chambers

ISLAMABAD, March 3: Shifting of lawyers’ chambers and local courts from F-8 Markaz to any other suitable place is under consideration as it has been a key demand of the business community.

These views were expressed by Tariq Mehmood Pirzada, Chief Commissioner on Saturday while talking to business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).

He said Balanced Rent Control Act would be introduced soon while the capital administration would appoint a motor vehicle examiner from the private sector so that vehicle fitness certificates might be issued in a transparent way.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Yassar Sakhi Butt, President, ICCI highlighted the problems of business community and said that coordination between business community and administration as well as the police force was vital for smooth functioningof the system.

ICCI members called upon chief commissioner to remove unnecessary pickets and barriers. — A Reporter

45 suspects arrested

ISLAMABAD, March 3: Ramna police on Saturday arrested 45 suspects during search operation in various localities including Sector G-12 and slum areas, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

Raman police team under the supervision of SP (Saddar) Sajid Kiani conducted search operation in its respective area andnabbed 45 suspects.

SHO Inspector Ghulam Mohammad Baqir along with police teams, commandoes and anti-terrorism squad conducted checking of various houses, under-construction buildings, inns and slum areas. Those who failed to prove their identity were taken into custody. SSP Islamabad Mohammad Yousuf Malik appreciated police performance and directed the officials to intensify patrolling and keep an eye on the suspected elements. — Staff Reporter

21 encroachers fined

RAWALPINDI, March 3: Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) on Saturday imposed fine of Rs21,000 on 21 shopkeepers over encroachment and seized 180 abandoned tyres from different parts of the city.

According to a spokesman, RTMA teams led by Town Officer Regulation Tauseef Ahmed Malik visited Raja Bazaar, Jamia Masjid Road, Commercial Market and Benazir Bhutto Road and imposed fine on shopkeepers who had displayed their goods on footpaths and roadsides.

He said RTMA staff also checked tyre shops in different parts of the city and seized 180 abandoned tyres to avoid spread of dengue virus.— A Reporter

Two cops booked

ATTOCK, March 3: Following the court order, Hasanabdal Saddar police registered a case against two cops of the same police station on the charge of delaying submission of an investigation report to the court.

District police headquarters said on Saturday that Judicial Magistrate Mukhtar Ahmed Ranjah directed SHO Hasanabdal Saddar police station Inspector Muhammad Aslam and Investigation Officer (IO) ASI Muhammad Fiaz on Nov 28, 2011 to submit the investigation report of a criminal case registered under FIR No 378 at the earliest. But the police officials did not comply with the court order despite the passage of three months. At this, the court ordered the police to register a case against both the policemen. — Correspondent

Prize distribution ceremony

FATEHJANG, March 3: Prize distribution ceremony of Punjab sports festival-2012 was held at Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, PML-N Attock general secretary Malik Asif Advocate said the sports event was envisaged by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to create sportsman spirit among students as tournaments of various games were organised at tehsil, district and provincial levels.  —Correspondent
