Fuel adjustment charges
ABBOTTABAD, March 2: The Haripur Chamber of Commerce and Industry will oppose fuel adjustment charge at every level.
This was stated by HCCI president Safdar Zaman Shah, while addressing a press conference at Haripur on Thursday.
He said that Hattar Industrial Estate was the only industrial estate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and with the imposition of fuel adjustment charge, electricity bills had increased threefold.
They asked the government for more incentives and relief to the business community of Haripur and demanded use of natural resources to generate power.
Meanwhile, Pir Pervez Alam took charge of the chief commissioner, Inland Revenue, Regional Tax Office Abbottabad.
He has been posted there after the transfer of Sajjad Akhter, who has gone for the NIPA course.—Correspondent
Five injured on road
SWABI, March 2: Five people were seriously injured when a car and a motorcycle collided on Swabi-Jahangira road near the Panjpir bus stop here on Friday.
Police said Dr Alamgir and Dr Sohail along with a friend were going to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex Shahmansoor in a car.
When they were near the Panjpir bus stop, a motorcycle, which suddenly appeared from the rickshaw stand, collided with the car. Five people were injured in the collision.
The injured were shifted to a local hospital in unconscious condition. The injured doctors were stated to be in critical condition.
They were referred to a hospital in Peshawar.
The motorcyclists were identified as Jalal Khan and Ahmad Ali.
Meanwhile, a minor girl was injured when a car hit her while crossing the road in Swabi city. She was taken to hospital.—Correspondent
TNFJ activists block road
KOHAT, March 2: Activists of Tehrik Nafaz-i-Fiqah-i-Jarfria (TNFJ) on Friday blocked the Kohat-Hangu highway in protest against the killings of people of their sect in Kohistan district.
The highway was blocked at Sherkot where the student wings of the TNFJ also took part in the protest and chanted slogans against the culprits.
The chief organiser of the TNFJ, Kohat, Ghazanfar Ali Shah, speaking on the occasion, condemned the killings of the people and termed them as pre-planned by a particular sect in Parachinar, Karachi, Quetta and Dera Ismail Khan.
He posed a question to the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan that the highest judiciary was taking suo motu notice of every incident except the sectarian killings in the country and termed it extreme injustice.
He also demanded strict ban on the activities of the banned organisations which were freely working under new names.
He along with other participants demanded early arrest and award of exemplary punishment to the killers involved in the incident.
The protest ended at an Imambargah after an hour.—Correspondent
Protecting democracy
PESHAWAR, March 2: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti said on Friday that democracy would be protected at all cost and that no body would be allowed to harm the democratic system achieved after a long struggle.
Talking to journalists at the assembly building, the chief minister said that the ANP would not permit any one to derail or harm democracy and would give every sacrifice to make it stronger. He said that ANP MPAs were loyal to the party.
Mr Hoti said unfortunately opposition did not reciprocate to the positive gesture of ruling coalition regarding unopposed candidates for the Senate.
He said the Senate election was part of democratic process that would strengthen democracy in the country.—APP
‘Horse-trading not allowed’
PESHAWAR, March 2: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour claimed on Friday that under a comprehensive strategy horse-trading was not allowed in the Senate elections.
Talking to reporters at the assembly here, the senior minister said polling was done smoothly and hopefully political parties would get seats as per their numerical strength in the parliament and provincial assemblies.
He rejected the propaganda of some private channels regarding horse-trading in the election and urged for positive and healthy reporting.—APP
