KARACHI: Former Test cricketer and chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed Sallu on Thursday hailed the appointment of Iqbal Qasim as the new chief selector and said the move will ensure fair selection of squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup, to be held in Bangladesh this month.

“I have worked with both Iqbal Qasim and Salim Jaffer in the past as selector and they are men of integrity who believe in upholding the merit at all cost,” said Sallu while talking to Dawn.

“I strongly feel that people who understand the game and are sincere to the cause of Pakistan cricket should be appointed as selectors and the PCB’s move today reflects just that.”

Sallu also praised Azhar Khan for his services as selector and said the former Test player also understood the game well. “It is a good combination now with Azhar also a good student of the game.”

Sallu added that the new selection committee had a tough job at hand with the selection of the team for the forthcoming Asia Cup because the time was really short.

“But I feel the selectors will do a good job of it because they are capable people.”
