Chasing a formidable target of 267, Bangladesh were all out for 182 in 48 overs losing their last four wickets in just 4.4 overs.
The first one-dayer Friday in Chittagong was abandoned as a draw due to bad weather.
After winning the toss in the day-night encounter at the Bangabandhu National stadium Monday, the Carribeans’ skipper, Ridley Jacobs, opted to bat first and the West Indies piled up 266 for four wicketsin their 50 overs.
Bangladesh was in trouble from the very first ball when Vasbert Drakes bowled opener Al-Shahriar.
Drakes, who took four for 26 in the rain-washed first match in Chittagong, again wrecked Bangladesh innings by picking up another four-wicket haul, for just 18 runs Monday.
Bangladesh were never able to recover from the opening setback and were 89 for five by the 25th over.
Captain Khaled Mashud and former skipper Naimur Rahman added 72 runs for the seventh wicket partnership, but they were only able to delay the prospect of a quick West Indies win.
Earlier the West Indies’ Ramnaresh Sarwan cracked an unbeaten 102 off 100 balls as the visitors dominated the hosts’ bowling attack.
Sarwan hit 11 boundaries to rescue his team after the visitors lost two early wickets for 37.
Thanks largely to Sarwan, the West Indies’ were able to score 189 runs in the second part of their innings.
A delighted Jacobs said after the win: “Sarwan is in good form and helped to put up a fighting score. We came here to win all the matches.”
“We are happy with this win. We are looking for another win Tuesday.” Mashud deplored his team’s disappointing performance.
“We could not capitalise the situation,” he said.
The third and last match of the one-day series will be held in Dhaka on Tuesday.
