ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday took suo moto notice of the manhandling of an Election Commission (EC) officer at a polling station by Sindh Assembly candidate Syeda Waheeda Shah, DawnNews reported.

The SC has summoned Ms Shah to court on March 2.

On February 25, the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Sindh Assembly candidate slapped a polling staff at Polling Station No 16 at Government Girls High School, Tando Muhammad Khan. Ms Shah was shown on TV physically attacking the polling staff on election day.

On Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Hamid Ali Mirza's directives, an FIR was registered against Ms Shah under Section 86(3)(b) of the Representation of People Act at the Tando Mohammad Khan police station.

The EC also decided to withhold the official result of by-election in the constituency, Sindh Assembly seat PS-53.
