Pakistan to take on India in Olympic qualifying preps

Five Pakistani pugilists will travel to India for a ‘one-night-fight’ with their Indian counterparts in New Delhi on 14th March.

The team would leave for India on 12th March and would return back to Pakistan on 15th March for the event which is considered as launch pad for the country’s Olympic Qualifying campaign.

Mohammad Nisar (49kg), Mohammad Waseem (52kg), Naimatullah (56kg), Kadir Khan (60kg) and Haider Riaz (64kg) would be competing in the event.

Upon their return, the Pakistani team will travel to Astana, Kazakhstan on 17th March for a training camp for the London qualifiers.

“The event in India would be an important one keeping in mind that our team would soon leave for Astana, where they would later feature in Olympics Qualifiers. The ‘one-night-fight’ would give them a big push to perform and hopefully they will carry the momentum in the training camp in Astana,” Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) secretary Akram Khan told PPI.

Mohammad Waseem, Pakistan’s top hope at the qualifiers, said he would do his level best to perform well in India and later in Olympics Qualifiers.
