KARAK, Feb 15: The enraged members of a local rights organisation locked hospitals and Pesco offices here on Wednesday to protest against what they called inefficiency of government departments in the district.

Khattak Ittehad, the organisation, had set a two-week deadline for the government departments in the district to improve their condition and work efficiently to serve masses.

After passing of one week, members of the organisation, led by its president Mirzaqeem, marched to Peshawar Electric Supply Company offices and locked them.

The protesters also locked the two main gates of Women and Children Hospital. They went to the office of executive district officer (health) and locked it after taking the officer out by force.

The angry members of Khattak Ittehad (KI) also went to district headquarters hospital in a procession and got medical superintendent out of his office and locked it.

Earlier, a meeting of KI was held at Town Hall with Maulana Mirzaqeem in the chair. Besides office-bearers of the organisation, a large number of residents of the area also attended the meeting.

The meeting recalled that KI had set a two-week deadline to the government institutions in the district to serve masses efficiently. “But so far no change has been witnessed in the working of these institutions,” the participants said.

They decided to lock the offices to give a message to the authorities that they would take any step to get their demand fulfilled.They said that after expiry of the deadline they would hold a meeting at Krappa Chowk to chalk out future line of action.

Reacting to the move, district chapter of Paramedic Association took out a protest procession and staged a sit-in outside the DCO office.

Led by Khalid Usman, the members of the association condemned the attitude of KI and demanded of authorities to lodge FIR against Maulana Mirzaqeem.

They said that they would not let anyone to disgrace the executive officers of the district. The office-bearers of the association also held negotiations with district officer revenue and set a 24-hour deadline for lodging FIR against Maulana Mirzaqeem.

All government hospitals and private clinks across the district would be locked as a protest if FIR was not lodged against Maulana Mirzaqeem, they threatened.

PTI: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf district chief Advocate Altaf Qadir has said that there are no differences among the party workers.

Addressing a public gathering at Nari Panos here on Wednesday, he said that a lot of people were waiting to join PTI to bring a change in the country. On the occasion, 15 families of the area announced to join PTI.

He urged workers to ignore propaganda by defeated elements and spread message of party to the nook and corner of the district.
