TAXILA, Feb 11: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) would support 20th amendment in the Parliament if assurance was extended that Election Commission (EC) would be made independent.

These views were expressed by opposition leader in Senate and Secretary General JUI-F Mulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri while talking to newsmen on Saturday.

“Interim government and an independent Election Commission (EC) should be constituted after taking religious and political parties on board,” he said. Talking about forthcoming general elections, he said no party would be able to form government single-handedly and coalition setup would be inevitable.

He said his party wanted to revive MMA because only coalition of religious parties could ensure solution to problems being faced by the countrymen. On Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s return from Bangladesh, JUI-F would invite Syed Munawar Hassan, Alama Sajid Naqvi, Abul Khair Zubair and Senator Sajid Mir to hammer out differences impeding MMA’s revival, he maintained.

He said fair and free elections were the only solution to the present crises being faced by the country. “All the political parties should be on the same page regarding a timeframe for elections,” said Mr Haideri.
